Egypt Breaks Kenya’s Heart in African Volleyball Championship Final

Kenya’s Malkia Strikers have finished second at the African Women’s Volleyball Championship after losing the final to Egypt at Kasarani.

Egypt won in straight sets—25-22, 25-15 and 25-15—to secure its fourth African title and a direct place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Despite the painful final defeat, Kenya’s silver medal came with an automatic ticket to the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship. It will be the country’s ninth appearance at the global tournament.

Kenya also received individual recognition, with players including opposite hitter Merlin Tata and middle blocker Marian Sokoiyo earning tournament honours.

The result will trigger discussion about what Malkia Strikers must improve before facing the world’s strongest teams. Egypt’s consistent serving and control at the net prevented Kenya from building sustained momentum in the final.

For the home supporters, the championship ended in disappointment—but the World Championship qualification gives the national team another major target.
