Embu Violence Leaves One Dead as Cars Burn During Kindiki-Linked UDA Meeting

One person was killed and several vehicles were torched after violence erupted during a United Democratic Alliance meeting in Nembure, Embu County, on Saturday.

The gathering, attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, was disrupted when groups of youths clashed with police and security personnel. Tear gas was reportedly used as officers attempted to restore order around the venue.

Images and videos from the scene showed vehicles on fire as panicked residents and attendees fled. Reports indicated that access to the meeting had become a source of tension, although police are yet to release a full account of the events and confirm the circumstances surrounding the death.

Kindiki condemned the violence and called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable. UDA also expressed regret over the destruction and loss reported during the incident.

The chaos adds fresh concern over political violence as parties intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election. Leaders across the political divide are increasingly under pressure to ensure rallies and party activities do not become flashpoints for violence.
