IEBC Addresses Fresh Concerns Over Dead Voters and Election Integrity

As the debate intensifies over electoral preparedness for the 2027 General Election.

The clarification follows renewed public concern about the integrity of the voters’ register, voter data, and the procurement of election technology. Such questions have become increasingly important as political parties begin preparing nominations, coalitions, and candidate selection processes.

The commission maintains that electoral systems include safeguards intended to prevent the use of inactive or deceased voters’ details. However, critics argue that the voters’ register must be continuously cleaned and independently audited to build confidence before the next election.

The issue is particularly sensitive in Kenya, where electoral credibility has often shaped public trust in institutions and triggered major political disputes. Calls are growing for early voter registration, transparent procurement, public education, and stronger oversight of electoral technology.

For IEBC, the challenge is not only to provide assurances but to demonstrate transparency well before the country enters the full campaign season.
