Kirinyaga Leaders Turn Development Record Into 2027 Political Battleground

Politics in Kirinyaga County is increasingly shifting from campaign slogans to a sharper argument over development, public services and the day-to-day impact of government programmes.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah told grassroots women leaders in Kiangwaci, Ndia Constituency, that Kenyans should judge the government by its record rather than political rhetoric and confrontation.

The remarks come as leaders across Mount Kenya begin laying the groundwork for the 2027 General Election. For voters, the debate is likely to focus on whether roads, jobs, agricultural support, healthcare and education programmes have made a visible difference in their communities.

Kirinyaga’s economy is strongly tied to agriculture, trade and small enterprise. This means households will judge leaders not only by major announcements but by practical issues such as the cost of farm inputs, market access, water availability, road maintenance and opportunities for young people.

The county is also politically significant because it is part of the larger Mount Kenya vote bloc, where government performance and leadership alignments will be closely watched in the months ahead.
