Nakuru to Host Teachers Run for 14 Rift Valley Counties on September 27

Nakuru is preparing to host teachers from 14 Rift Valley counties for a regional running event on Sunday, September 27, bringing educators together for sport and professional recognition.

Organisers have announced five-kilometre and ten-kilometre races. The ten-kilometre event is scheduled to start at 6am from Chester Hotel near Afraha Stadium.

The shorter race is set to begin at the Pork Centre near Menengai High School. The regional director’s office has invited teachers registered through the Teachers Service Commission platform to participate.

Participation will extend beyond competitive runners. Teachers who prefer walking have also been encouraged to join, making the event accessible to a wider section of the profession.

Nakuru’s gathering is part of simultaneous Teachers Run activities in eight regional centres: Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Embu, Kakamega, Kisumu, Mombasa and Garissa.

The programme contributes to celebrations marking TSC’s 60th anniversary and precedes World Teachers’ Day on October 5. Organisers describe it as an opportunity to promote wellness and recognise educators’ contribution.

National celebrations are planned at Nairobi’s Kasarani Gymnasium. TSC has also invited partners and well-wishers to support the build-up activities, including the running events.

The national programme includes awards recognising contributions such as school leadership, inclusive education, mentorship and innovation in teaching. For participating educators, Sunday’s run offers a shared regional gathering before those national commemorations.
